Meet the Author
Serena has overcome extreme obstacles, personally and professionally. Her tragic upbringing included abuse, assault, homelessness, addiction, and unimaginable adversity, yet despite her challenges, she found a true sense of purpose along the way.
Like a tree without the sun, it bends to seek light to survive, yet when left in darkness; the roots become frail. Similarly, the traumatic experiences of explicit sexual abuse hindered my childhood development. As a result, I lived in darkness, which ultimately led me to find safety in hiding.

Tragedy and trauma are debilitating, but so many of us have learned to cope with these life-altering events by hiding them away. Our most human desire is for connection, intimacy, and being seen by the ones we love the most. But when our trust has been broken, when we maladapt, when we hide our pain and feel misunderstood, we hide the parts of us that are so desperate to be seen and known.
Yet when we bravely step out of the shadows and share our stories, we open ourselves up to incredible healing. Moreover, we offer healing to others through our courage to own our stories and vulnerably share them.
